Ciudad Dario-Prado Eye Project Report
January 31-February 4, 2011

SUMMARY: During the week 1645 people were served. Much appreciated was the Honda generator in the village of Prado.

Friday, January 28: Most of our group arrived in Managua and checked into Las Mercedes.
Saturday, Jan 29: Met with Dr. Josefina Bonilla and discussed the Lions Vitamin A project.
Sunday, Jan 30: Loaded glasses and equipment and traveled to Matagalpa and checked in Hotel Lomas de Santo Tomas.
Monday, January 31: Traveled to the village of Prado and set up operations in the school. We were pleased to find Jessica, a Peace Corps worker, who was a great help. Put the generator to god use since there was no power in the room for the autorefractor. Saw 278 people—almost all of who had never had glasses before.

Tuesday, February 1: Returned to the Village of Prado to see 251 people. We also left a suitcase of school supplies with head of the school and hundreds of stuffed animals with Jessica-the Peace worker.

Wednesday, February 2: Moved our operations to the offices of the Rainbow Network (Red Arco Iris) in Ciudad Dario. This who project was coordinated by Dr. Candido Rios and our needs were very well met by the Rainbow workers. On this day we saw 332 people.

Thursday, February 3: Continued in Ciudad Dario. Tents were placed in the back courtyard which helped much for the comfort of fitting the glasses. This day 418 people were seen.
Friday, February 4: Finished in Ciudad Dario by seeing 366 peple. Returned to Las Mercedes Hotel.

Saturday, February 5: Returned the reamaining eyeglasses and the equipment to the warehouse and evaluated the roof of the warehouse, the repair of which will be the subject of another trip. The remainder of the day was spent touring Managua and shopping. Had a nice dinner at El Churosco.

Sunday, February 6: Visited Masaya, San Juan de Oriente, and Catarina. Returned to Las Mercedes to prepare for Superbowl XLV. Mr. Roberto Crus, the manager of he hotel, set up two large screen TV’s in the outdoor eating area. There were probably 50 Packer fans and 5 Steeler fans present. The week was made a complete success by the Packers win!!!
